H.C. BROWN has to say about writing BDSM erotica
What got you interested in writing BDSM?
Talking to people in the scene and listening to stories about D/s relationships. I found the respect and trust issues very interesting especially how these factors enriched their lives.
What resource, if any, have you done into BDSM to make your stories realistic?
Oh, wow now that’s a very personal question. First, I purchased a few books written by experts in the field, rather than reading romance stories about sadomasochists that were so far from the truth they were laughable. Then I visited a club as a sightseer and it went from there.
What differences or difficulties, if any, do you see in writing D/s stories as opposed to your typical romance?
Every story I write usually requires some sort of research. All romance stories are basically the same but the building of trust between a D/s couple is very important. The BDSM scenes must be realistic not sadistic. I think as authors we have an obligation to correct the bad impression most people believe about the BDSM culture.
